What is Production of low-carbon fuels (RPF)?
RPF is an abbreviation for "refuse derived paper and plastics densified fuel," which is made by compressing waste plastics and paper waste as the main raw materials. It is an environmentally friendly fuel that is stable in quality and can significantly reduce CO₂ emissions compared to coal and other fuels.
The Group continuously supplies this fuel for use in boilers, mainly to paper companies. We can also make detailed adjustments to meet the needs of our customers.
Social issues
Thorough and effective utilization of plastic resources is required to address a wide range of issues, including the problem of marine debris such as drifting plastics and microplastics, securing resources such as oil, the raw material for plastics, and combatting global warming.
In addition, companies expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are working daily toward the goal of carbon neutrality by searching for alternative fuels to coal.
Market size
Demand for RPF, a promising alternative fuel to coal and coke, is expected to grow from 1.5 million tons in 2020 to around 2.3 million tons in 2030, an approximate 1.5-fold increase.

Business features
RPF Manufacturing technology and know-how
We have over 20 years of experience in RPF manufacturing. We accept a wide range of waste plastics, mainly soft plastics, from factories and stores, and manufacture RPF to supply paper companies and other customers. We can control the calorific value and chlorine concentration by appropriately blending waste plastics according to their types and properties. We are also making efforts to develop applications other than fuel.
Covers a wide area
We have established a wide-area raw material collection network centered on the Kanto and Chubu regions. We provide economical and efficient services by arranging the most appropriate transportation vehicles and reverse logistics according to the discharge status and packing style of waste plastics.
Low-carbon manufacturing process based on RE100
The Group was the first company in the recycling industry to join RE100. One hundred percent of the electricity used for RPF production is derived from renewable energy sources, making it an environmentally friendly manufacturing process.
Service overview
The value of RPF has been reassessed in recent years because it is an environmentally friendly fuel that is said to emit about 33% less CO₂ than coal. The Group has further reduced CO₂ emissions in the RPF manufacturing process by converting its plants to RE100, making it a low-carbon fuel with even lower CO₂ emissions.
